A new year has arrive and all of us at Domis Development wish you a happy
and healthy 2012.

Recent events and the subsequent news coverage has painted a picture that
Greece is a country of greedy and lazy people that have contributed to their
own downfall.

Let us remember just a few short years ago when the northern European and
American banking systems were on the verge of collapse. People had lost
confidence in the system, they were worried about losing their homes, their
jobs and wondered how they would survive in an economy that looked to be
heading towards meltdown. Using their credit cards to the limit did not
provide the answer!

That was never the case in Greece. Historically it has always been a cash
society and as such there was never the same levels of personal debt and the
banks did not need to be bailed out by the taxpayer.

It is true that the Greek government borrowed more than it should have, but
so did many other countries including the UK. Countries have always borrowed
from each other, it is part of their daily business and it is the confidence
in that country that allows the lender to set realistic repayment rates.
Unfortunately the markets turned against Greece and raised the borrowing
rates to such a level that the compound interest was inflated to such a
degree that it took the repayments beyond sustainable levels.

In an attempt to face this crisis head on and bring stability back to the
country , the Greek government has introduced a range of measures to control
its debt. They have promised they will succeed and will lead the country
back to a sound financial footing.

So the economy is being fixed...but there is so much else for Europeans
thinking of making the move to Greece to consider. We all know about the
wonderful weather and it is just that...wonderful. What else is there, the
crime rate is very low, the pace of life is very relaxed. The history and
culture of the island will draw you in to a way of life that is hard to
imagine in this day and age. Friendly people following customs and
traditions that have prevailed for many years are a stark contrast to the
hustle and bustle of the rest of the modern world.

Yes, Greece is still a great place to live and with the GBP beginning to
rally against the Euro your pensions and savings will go even further than
previous years. If you want to change your lifestyle............there really
is no better place.
